Bob Myers has produced a similar practical guide on parenting older children. . His background is in residential social work in a hostel for homeless young people. He aims to make complex theory simple. In looking at teenage behaviour he draws heavily on Transactional Analysis (TA) theory and the work of Eric Berne, the author of The Games People Play. He encourages adults to take control of the parenting situation by by taking control of their own actions and reactions. He seeks to remove conflict from parent child relationships and identifies the traps that block good communication. The book is well organised with summaries at the end of each chapter.
Recommended for parents in intact families and non residential parents alike.
